Working Class Perspectives editor feels the DNC could have hit issues harder

John Russo of Working Class Perspectives compared and contrasted the RNC and the DNC, suggested where political improvements can be made and more when he appeared on the Aug. 28 episode of America’s Work Force Radio Podcast.

Missed opportunities at the DNC

Russo started by explaining how the Democrats did not go on the attack enough at their convention. He said they could have highlighted all of President Trump’s broken promises and failures at the detriment of the middle class.

Russo said Democrats could have gone on the attack regarding tax cuts billed as being beneficial to the middle class, but really only benefiting the richest taxpayers. He also suggested they attack the president for attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement and doing nothing to curb the opioid crisis.

Lastly, Russo suggested Democrats attack the president for blocking aid to working families throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the HEROES Act has been blocked and if passed, it would help middle class families.

Russo then criticized the DNC organizers for booking former Ohio Governor John Kasich to speak at the convention as opposed to United States Senator Sherrod Brown. Instead of elevating the voices of labor-friendly politicians the DNC sought to play moderate politics.

Looking ahead to 2024

Lastly, Russo suggested that the 2024 election is even more important than the 2020 election. He said the economy will not recover for a while, no matter who is in office. This leads him to believe the future election is more pertinent than the current one.
