Veterans make ideal candidates for Insulators Union apprenticeships

International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers General President Gregory T. Revard joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss how veterans can take advantage of the opportunities presented through registered apprenticeship training programs.

Veterans are often ideal candidates for apprenticeships, since they know how to follow orders, appreciate the importance of going to work every day and are used to the physical nature of the work, Revard said.

Revard also talked about the opportunity the recently passed infrastructure bill will bring to the Insulators Union. However, it also introduces a challenging problem. More apprentices will be needed to fill the jobs created by the bill, he explained.

Aside from apprenticeships, Revard discussed the environmental benefits of mechanical insulation. Work performed by members of the Insulators Union members not only saves property managers considerable money, but it lowers a building’s carbon footprint, he said. Properly installed mechanical insulation will play a key role in the nation’s efforts to reach carbon neutrality.

Lastly, Revard talked about how the Insulators Union has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, 38 of their members have passed away from COVID-19. He encouraged members to become vaccinated for their own safety and the safety of their families.
