Jon Reiss, Executive Director of the Cuyahoga County Veterans Service Commission spoke with America’s Work Force on April 28 to discuss how the commission has adjusted to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses in the state of Ohio are closed or continuing business with employees working from home. The Cuyahoga County Veterans Service Commission (CCVSC) is no exception to the shutdown of business. Reiss explained that the CCVSC is still working diligently to provide veterans in need with the services that they advertise. He said that one of the ways they are helping out remotely is by providing veterans with money cards to buy food, cleaning and hygiene supplies and clothes. Reiss mentioned that the CCVSC brick and mortar might open up in the first phase of the economy reopening, but will have to abide by the strict safety provisions.
Tom Buffenbarger, former General President of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers spoke about the ongoing issues with the Boeing Company. He discussed the push to unionize at Boeing as a means to improve the quality control of production and safety of workers in the factory. With quality control being an issue at Boeing, a union presence in their factories may help fix the issue.
AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about the discussions to reopen the economy in different states and whether or not they are overlooking how dangerous it could be.
