United Auto Workers (UAW) Legislative Representative Desiree Hoffman joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss UAW Legislative Director Josh Nassar’s recent appearance before the U.S. House Agriculture Committee promoting policies that support domestic electric vehicle production and union jobs.
According to Hoffman, Nassar told lawmakers more needs to be done to strengthen domestic auto manufacturing, including giving workers who want to organize the ability to join a union.
His testimony included a discussion on how the nation must also prepare for the future of electric vehicles. China has cornered the market on critical components for electric vehicles. These supplies need to be produced domestically so the U.S. can lead the way in electric vehicle manufacturing, he testified.
Hoffman said Nassar’s testimony was well received. He also spoke about the importance of electric vehicle tax credits, which remain part of the Build Back Better budget reconciliation bill. Despite U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W. Va.) refusal to support the bill in December, the bill is still pending. The UAW hopes its electric vehicle tax credits will remain viable, she added.
