Transportation Trades Department expects COVID-19 relief and a labor-friendly Biden admin.

The transportation industry has taken a massive hit from the COVID-19 pandemic as commercial airlines have grounded planes, public transit initiated smaller capacity limits and more.

Transportation Trades Department (TTD) Secretary-Treasurer Greg Regan highlighted how the pandemic is currently affecting the transportation industry and what he expects from a Biden-Harris administration on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.

Pandemic status

Despite the need for funding to help those who are currently unemployed and the industries that have been affected the most, Congress has taken a week-long holiday recess.

Regan said the transit industry has taken a massive hit and desperately needs a relief package. Although there has been promising vaccine news, there are still people and industries hanging on by a thread that need relief.

The House has passed two bills that include relief funding, unemployment insurance and safety measures included. These have not seen the Senate floor and Regan hopes the next congress will be able to find a solution.

Biden-Harris administration optimism

The Biden-Harris campaign emphasized unions all along the campaign trail. This gives Regan hope that the labor movement will make great progress under the new administration.

The TTD believes the Biden Department of Transportation will be incredibly pro-worker. Regan is expecting increased worker safety regulations and more. He believes their experience from the Great Recession means this administration will be successful in crawling out of this recession.
