Desiree Hoffman, International Representative with the United Steelworkers spoke with America’s Work Force on March 12 to discuss why everyone should participate in the 2020 census.
Hoffman spoke about the census taking place in 2020 and why everyone should participate in the census. She said that the census is important because the reappointment of seats in Congress are reallocated by population in certain areas. Hoffman also discussed how having an accurate count of people will help appropriate money and resources for school funding. She then talked about the citizenship question and whether or not it should remain on the census form.
Hannah Halbert, Executive Director for Policy Matters Ohio spoke about policy changes in Ohio. She said that there needs to be more investment in communities if we want to see change. Halbert also spoke about the importance of social security and pension benefits, noting that some families rely heavily on it. She told a story about how her father was tragically killed when she was younger and how her family was able to continue on and afford to live thanks to social security.
