As President-elect Joe Biden continues to assemble his cabinet, Congressional Republicans and Democrats continue to debate on stimulus packages.
AFL-CIO Director of Government Affairs Bill Samuel joined America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss stimulus package rumors and the transfer of power from the Trump administration to the incoming Biden administration.
Second stimulus package
Samuel said that Congress is nearing the passage of a second stimulus package. He said congressional Republicans have blocked House packages because they did not include corporate liability protections, something Democrats strongly opposed.
Another sticking point of discussions is the amount of money earmarked for direct payments. Democrats would like more money, while Republicans would like a smaller amount.
Transfer of power
Samuel then talked about the transfer of power from the Trump administration to the Biden administration.
He acknowledged the roadblocks being put up by the Trump administration, but said the transition will continue regardless.
Additionally, Samuel discussed the various cabinet picks that have been announced. He looks forward to seeing Education Secretary DeVos and Labor Secretary Scalia being replaced by those who have experience in the office they will oversee.
