Thanks to wave of energy by Democratic voters throughout the country, especially Georgia, Democrats retained power in the House of Representatives, the Senate and won the White House.
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown discussed where his efforts will be focused over the next two years, the progress being made on COVID-19 relief and more on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.
COVID-19 relief plan
Sen. Brown said he is upset with the current stimulus package, which was passed by the previous Congress and signed into law by the Trump administration.
The bill did not provide any relief to local governments under the guise of not wanting to “bail out” so-called “poorly managed” cities and states. The effects of this will be long lasting.
Sen. Brown added that this will cause people to lose their jobs, companies will go out of business and communities will be left bankrupt as their police and fire departments lose out on funding.
Apprenticeship across America
Sen. Brown said he wants to focus a good amount of time and effort on encouraging apprenticeship programs. He added that these programs lead to good paying jobs and prosperous life.
He added that a focus on unionism is important. Unions provide quality resources to their members in healthcare, pension, vacation time and more.
He tied this into a potential infrastructure package. Since more tradesmen and tradeswomen will be needed to complete the projects, it is a good idea to promote these programs and train the next generation of workers.
