American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) District 6 Vice President Arnold Scott joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss how President Joe Biden has restored rights for government employees.
Early in his presidency, Biden rescinded former President Trump’s executive orders and restored collective bargaining, due process and workplace representation rights for federal workers. He explained how President Biden’s appointment of a new acting general counsel at the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) paved the way for the FLRA to address a backlog of disputes and prosecute agencies who violated their own policies and labor laws.
Scott also discussed the importance of Congress raising the nation’s debt limit to keep the federal government operational. He said the 35-day shutdown that occurred under President Trump devastated federal workers.
Lastly, he urged Congress to change the current two-year probationary period for workers in the U.S. Department of Defense to one-year, as it is for all other federal employees.
