Progressive Populist editor lays out what President-elect Biden needs to do early in his term

With Joe Biden being named President-elect, he can now begin to plan how he will create what some perceive as a mess created during the past four years under President Trump.

Progressive Populist Editor Jim Cullen discussed the details of the election, what he made of each candidate’s performance and the early work Joe Biden will need to do to get the United States back on track after President Trump leaves office.

Cullen said he has high hopes that President-elect Joe Biden will restore the norms of the United States government to pre-Trump standards.

No blue wave for Democrats

He addressed the pre-election predictions, which had Democrats winning all over. In reality, Democrats lost seats in the House of Representatives and failed to take the Senate majority on election night.

Despite not taking the majority on election night, Democrats are holding out hope that they will win the runoff races in Georgia that could see them take the majority.

What does Biden need to do?

In order to bring the United States back to the power and standing it enjoyed before President Trump took office, Biden will have to act fast.

Cullen suggested President-elect Biden reacquaint the United States with our allies in the Paris Climate Accord. He also said the United States should restore funding to the World Health Organization and heed their advice when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, he said Biden needs to establish a path to citizenship for those living in the United States under DACA.

Cullen said an added bonus would be to have an attorney general who will investigate and prosecute Trump’s crimes from his time in office.
