Operation Union Veterans Day celebrates opportunities for veterans

Will Attig, an Iraq War veteran and Executive Director of the Union Veterans Council, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss Operation Union Veterans Day, the Council’s campaign to tell the story about the role veterans and military families play in the American labor movement throughout the month of November.

Attig also spoke about his own experience as a union veteran and the opportunities the trades provided him after his service in the Iraq War between 2003 and 2010. The goal of the Union Veterans Council is to educate and mobilize union veterans who are part of the labor movement and to encourage other veterans to get into the building trades.

Additionally, Attig discussed efforts by the Union Veterans Council through the AFL-CIO to partner with Yale Law School to bring deported veterans home and set them on a path to citizenship. The program began under former AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, who passed away this past summer.
