Ohio tradesmen and tradeswomen may receive vaccine early

The construction industry in Ohio has a fairly positive outlook as 2021 begins. There is plenty of hope that infrastructure investments will be made and that workplace fatalities will decrease.

Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council Secretary-Treasurer Mike Knisley explained when tradesmen and tradeswomen will be vaccinated, the new Capital Budget and more on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.

COVID-19 vaccine

Knisley said the tradesmen and tradeswomen of Ohio should have access to the COVID-19 vaccine in the second wave of workers to be offered, as they were deemed an essential industry.

Although other industries are seeing shocking amounts of workers refuse the vaccine, Knisley is fairly certain that the construction industry will be more receptive of the vaccine.

Ohio Capital Budget

He also discussed the Capital Budget, worth $2.5 billion to be spent on Ohio projects.

Many of these projects will be fresh, out of the ground projects, providing plenty of work for Ohio tradesmen and tradeswomen. Additionally, money is earmarked for a number of infrastructure projects.

Workplace safety

In a year that saw workplace fatalities continue to climb, Knisley hopes 2021 will be better for workers. He said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration needs to be fully restored in order to keep America’s workers safe.
