Ohio Consumers Counsel recommends energy saving strategies for consumers to implement during the Winter.

Andrew Tinkham, Senior Outreach and Education Program Specialist for Ohio Consumers Counsel spoke with America’s Work Force Union Podcast about Ohio House Bill 772 repealing and replacing Ohio House Bill 6 and consumers preparing their houses for the Winter.

Ohio House Bill 772

With the amount of controversy surrounding Ohio House Bill 6, Ohio legislators are working to pass Ohio House Bill 772 which would effectively repeal and replace H.B. 6. OH H.B. 772 would offer Ohio consumers billions of dollars in savings. The focus of Ohio H.B. 6 was to provide government subsidies to the owners of two nuclear plants to maintain operations.

Tinkham said that with the criminal activity that surrounded H.B. 6, they would need to push harder to pass the legislation to repeal and replace it. H.B. 772 would better help Ohio consumers and help fix the issues that plagued H.B. 6. They have until the end of 2020 to pass the bill.

Saving Energy

With Winter quickly approaching, Tinkham offered listeners tips on how to save money with some energy saving tips. He first said that insulation would help homeowners save money. However, with the expensive cost of insulation, he recommended other methods.

On a monthly basis, change your furnace’s filter and keep it serviced. The cleaner the filter, the more efficiently it will operate. Tinkham also mentioned sealing your windows in order to keep heat from escaping.
