On Election Day, the Ohio AFL-CIO is making a plea to the working people of the state and country to vote with their job, organizing rights and the future of the nation in mind.
Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga gave his election day predictions, spoke about changes in the House of Representatives and United States Senate and ended his segment by making the case for Democrats to win races in Ohio.
Election Day 2020
On Election Day, Burga said he has a good feeling about how the results will turn out. He said Trump has lost the ability to run as a “Washington outsider” who will shake things up.
He now has a record.
Burga pleaded to the union members who voted for President Trump in 2016 to think about what President Trump has delivered them. He reminded people that Trump was unable to get an infrastructure bill, no healthcare plan and an increased trade deficit. Additionally, Burga reminded listeners that General Motors closed its doors in Youngstown after getting a massive tax break.
On the national level, Burga expressed hope that those who are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic remember that Republicans had time to ram a Supreme Court Justice through one week before an election, but could not find the time to get relief to the American people.
Stepping away from the presidential election, Burga said he has mixed thoughts about whether the Democrats will be able to take back the Senate. If they do, he said that Democrats need to impose their will and act swiftly on a pro-worker agenda.
As the president of the Ohio AFL-CIO, the Ohio races are hugely important to Burga. He said that the Democrats need to win back the Ohio Supreme Court. Doing this can ensure that fair district maps are drawn and any gerrymandering will be blocked.
