As the Biden administration begins to get their pieces in place and move forward with their legislative agenda, those working for the U.S. Postal Service are excited about the changes.
National Postal Mail Handlers Union Local 322 President Kelly Dickey joined America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss what the Biden administration can do to improve the efficiency of the USPS and make life better for those employed by the USPS.
Results of the election
The presidential election yielded positive results for union members and those working for the USPS.
Dickey said USPS employees worked hard to ensure mail-in ballots were received and delivered, and that an unprecedented, COVID-19 induced Christmas season was handled. Dickey said workers did well despite the adversity.
What to do with Louis DeJoy?
Dickey said a positive step could be removing Postmaster General Louis DeJoy from his post, although it won’t be an easy task.
She said the administration will have to go through the Postal Board of Governors to oust DeJoy. Once this board makes the decision to oust DeJoy, President Biden can then appoint a new postmaster general.
Finally, she said Biden can fire the board members, but this would make the process of getting rid of DeJoy even longer.
