North Shore AFL-CIO leadership changes hands, develops new strategies

The Ohio labor community will remain in good hands as the state continues to build a “building trades majority” in the statehouse and local labor councils get back to work in 2021.

North Shore AFL-CIO Treasurer Len DiCosimo discussed the Jan. 6 events in the U.S. Capitol, changes occurring at the North Shore AFL-CIO and how the Cleveland Orchestra is dealing with the pandemic.

North Shore AFL-CIO

DiCosimo is now the new treasurer of the federation, which operates in Cleveland.

He is happy with the other changes, including the Cleveland Teachers Union President becoming Chair of the federation and Lakewood City Council President Dan O’Malley becoming President of the North Shore AFL-CIO.

DiCosimo said they will need to promote labor better in order to get more involved and educated on the community’s goals. They hope to do this by hosting plenty of rallies throughout the area.

This is a strategy they used during the Nov. 3 election and plan to continue it in the future.

Cleveland Orchestra

The Cleveland Orchestra, and community of musicians in general, have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With no concerts allowed, DiCosimo hopes the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine will allow concerts to resume and musicians to earn a living.

Finally he said that as the weather warms up, musicians will be eager to play limited attendance, outdoor concerts.
