New initiative helps bring equality to those in a forgotten region

With Appalachia being a region that has fallen behind in terms of progress compared to other regions, Caitlin Johnson of Policy Matters Ohio discussed a new coalition called Reimagine Appalachia on the Aug. 13 episode of America’s Work Force Radio Podcast.

Johnson started out discussing Reimagine Appalachia and the objectives of the coalition.

Reimagine Appalachia

She said Reimagine Appalachia is a coalition of 60 organizations from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The affiliated organizations include labor organizations, policy experts, community leaders and more. They all signed on to ensure people have good paying jobs, a government that cares about them and a future to look forward to.

Fighting for equality

She lamented corporate CEO’s and politicians for driving people apart based on what they look like, where they are from, their socioeconomic status and more.

She said Reimagine Appalachia fights for equality in legislation and calls on federal policy makers to be responsible and fair as they draw up state and federal funding packages.

In a time when many organizations are taking the route of telling people what they are against, Reimagine Appalachia is telling people what they are for.

Johnson said the coalition is fighting for people of Appalachia who have been forgotten for far too long. She finished by telling listeners that Reimagine Appalachia will never come out against a specific policy, but will only promote ideas, actions and policies the coalition is for.
