Andrew Tinkham, Senior Outreach and Education Program Specialist with the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel, joined America’s Work Force on March 9 to discuss natural gas rates.
Tinkham discussed natural gas auctions in Ohio and how they have the lowest natural gas rates. Tinkham said that natural gas auctions set the standard for competitive rates on natural gas and make it more affordable for Ohio residents. Tinkham then went on to discuss energy saving tips for the spring season. He suggested that people get their air conditioning unit serviced to prepare for the warmer weather. He also suggested using fans when possible. Lastly, Tinkham discussed ways to avoid getting scammed on your utility bills.
Dan Duncan, executive secretary-treasurer of the Maritime Trades Department of the AFL-CIO talked about the earthquakes and aftershock in Puerto Rico. He said that unions are the driving force in the effort to rebuild Puerto Rican cities after these disasters. Duncan mentioned how unions are working on their own merit in Puerto Rico, expecting little government assistance. He also mentioned the Jones Act and the consequences of President Trump waiving the Jones Act.
