Jimmy Cullen, Editor for the Progressive Populist spoke with America’s Work Force on April 10 to discuss mail in ballots for the 2020 election.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, people are beginning to worry about how it could affect their ability to vote in the upcoming election. Cullen explained that it is not too early to start worrying about means of voting in the upcoming election when there is no clear end in sight of the dangers of the COVID-19 virus and social interactions. He said that everyone has to remember that they can apply for an absentee ballot. Voters can then mail in their ballots when it comes time. For all we know, the COVID-19 pandemic could be long over by then, but if it is not, we need to know all of our voting options.
Cullen then discussed why we need to protect the U.S. Postal Service and keep it from privatizing. He talked about how Conservatives are attempting to privatize the postal service. He listed reasons as to why privatization would be such a disastrous idea and how the public will suffer because of it. Cullen said that Trump has been speaking poorly of mail in ballots. Trump claimed, without evidence, that there is a higher risk of voter fraud. Lastly, he discussed how Conservatives are against offering a bailout for the USPS during the pandemic, so they opted to suspend first class shipping until the pandemic passes.
Joyce Goldstein, Labor Attorney from Northeast Ohio spoke about a COVID-19 death lawsuit. Walmart has not provided employees with personal protective equipment and are forbidding employees from wearing and bringing any of their own. If an employee is found to be wearing any, they are asked to remove it or sent home without pay. The family of a Walmart worker who died from COVID-19 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Now it is under investigation whether or not they contracted the virus while on the job. However, without proper personal protective equipment, it is a possibility.
