Made in America Council pursues priorities of Biden’s Executive Order

International Brotherhood of Teamsters Legislative Representative Mike Dolan joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the Made in America Council, which was designed to guide the Biden Administration’s efforts to boost the purchase of U.S.-made goods.

The council will assist the Biden administration’s effort to help all federal agencies meet the obligations laid out in the President’s Buy American Executive Order.

Dolan also spoke about the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness that was formed to provide the Secretary of Commerce with advice regarding national freight infrastructure and freight policy to support the U.S. supply chain and export competitiveness. Teamsters General Elect President Sean O’Brien sits on the committee, as does AFL-CIO President Liz Schuler. Dolan is excited labor’s voice is being heard on the supply chain issue. It shows the Biden Administration’s commitment to labor, he added.

Lastly, Dolan talked about the supply chain crisis that has resulted from a bottleneck at West Coast ports. He indicated the issue is starting to improve. The problem has been exacerbated by the misclassification of truck drivers at the ports, he said. Dolan suggested higher pay and better benefits could alleviate the truck driver shortage.
