Labor groups expect Biden administration to be the most pro-labor with the help of a Democratic Senate majority

With the prospect of the Democrats gaining control of the U.S. Senate, many in the labor community are hopeful that Democratic victory will lead to much pro-labor legislation passing through Congress.

Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga is one of these hopefuls and detailed what he would like to see done should Democrats take control of the Senate on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.

Focused on Georgia

Burga said all eyes are on Georgia as control of the Senate is at stake. Control of the Senate will determine whether or not the Biden administration will be able to fully advance their pro-labor agenda.

The two Democratic candidates, Rev. Warnock and Jon Ossoff have the backing of many labor groups and organizations, hopefully appealing to blue-collar workers in the state.

Pro-labor Biden administration

Burga said that what he has heard so far out of the Biden campaign and now Biden transition team, could make it the most pro-labor administration in a long time. Having union leaders involved in the campaign and transition has been an added advantage.

The PRO Act could be one of the signature accomplishments for the administration, which passed the House but was not brought to a Senate vote by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Additionally, a complete infrastructure package can help get Americans back to work and repair some of the economical fractures created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
