Joyce Goldstein of Goldstein Gragel, LLC discussed an Ohio Supreme Court case and the continued erosion of workers rights by the current National Labor Relations Board.
Ohio Supreme Court rules against workers
The case ruled on by the Ohio Supreme Court involves a company requiring employees be watched when providing a sample for a urinalysis exam.
In the case, four workers filed a suit against their employer. The workers said the employers wanted them to take a urine test while being watched by an observer or be terminated. Two of the four were unable to provide a sample, leading them to termination.
Goldstein said the high court ultimately ruled the right of an employer to control their workplace is greater than the right of employees to have privacy of their genitalia.
Problems at the NLRB
Next, Goldstein touched on the erosion of workers rights under the current National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
She said the NLRB General Counsel Peter Robb has ultimate control over how workers are treated by the NLRB. She said he decides which charges are brought in front of the board and which are not.
She added that Robb has routinely been throwing out charges filed by employees and labor unions, giving more power to employers.
