INVEST in America Act

President of Alliance for American Manufacturing, Scott Paul spoke with America’s Work Force Radio Podcast on July 1 to discuss the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act.

Alliance for American ManufacturingPaul said the INVEST in America Act seeks to authorize $500 billion over five years to fix some of the country’s most pressing infrastructure issues. These include bridges, roads, transit systems and buildings. He said the U.S. had great infrastructure needs before the COVID-19 pandemic, but the pandemic has further exposed them. Paul then talked about how construction projects need to use more American made products and resources. He said there needs to be legislation drawn up to make it more difficult for companies to outsource labor and tighten up any loopholes there might be. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is a push to end the U.S. dependency on China for production in the supply chain. Paul then discussed people of color losing their jobs at a disproportionately higher rate. Lastly, he spoke about the need for the U.S. to invest in manufacturing programs with quality training and infrastructure.

Program Manager and Training Specialist for the United Association of Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and HVAC-R Technicians Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) Program, Mike Hazard spoke about what the VIP program is all about. The VIP program is an active-duty transitioning program for Marines, National Guard and Reserve, Army, Navy and Air Force personnel to receive training and job placement upon transitioning out of the military. He explained how the program has industry partners to help with job placement upon completion of the VIP Program. Hazard praised the program for the amount of graduates and success stories they have seen and how it is a life changing experience for these people who are unsure of their future after completing their service.

AWF Radio Podcast host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about the minimum wage hike in different states across the U.S.
