President of Alliance for American Manufacturing, Scott Paul spoke with America’s Work Force Radio Podcast on July 1 to discuss the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act.
Paul said the INVEST in America Act seeks to authorize $500 billion over five years to fix some of the country’s most pressing infrastructure issues. These include bridges, roads, transit systems and buildings. He said the U.S. had great infrastructure needs before the COVID-19 pandemic, but the pandemic has further exposed them. Paul then talked about how construction projects need to use more American made products and resources. He said there needs to be legislation drawn up to make it more difficult for companies to outsource labor and tighten up any loopholes there might be. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is a push to end the U.S. dependency on China for production in the supply chain. Paul then discussed people of color losing their jobs at a disproportionately higher rate. Lastly, he spoke about the need for the U.S. to invest in manufacturing programs with quality training and infrastructure.
