Insulators Local 18 celebrate 100 percent union labor promise on Justice Center project

The value of union labor is being recognized throughout the country, especially in Indianapolis, Ind. Marion county has pledged to use 100 percent union labor on a massive project.

International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local 18 Business Manager Jason Smith joined AWF Union Podcast to talk about the 100 percent union project, LEED certified projects and more.

Indianapolis-Marion County Community Justice Center

Smith said the area building trades all worked together to get this project to be 100 percent union built.

In the past, legislative efforts have been made to establish a union presence with varying success. He said the building trades have the support of the city council and the mayor, however.

The members of Local 18 will be put to the test, as this is a LEED certified project. LEED certification means the project meets all energy efficiency standards necessary.

Construction on the project is expected to be completed in early 2022, with a peak in the jobsite workforce in the summer of 2021.
