Richard Fiesta, executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans spoke with America’s Work Force on Friday, April 19 about strengthening social security.
Fiesta began his time on AWF by explaining how the United States does not offer paid maternity leave like other countries do. A conservative bill has recently been brought up, which will use funds from one’s social security benefits to pay for their maternity leave. Fiesta then explained why the most recent GOP tax cut is hurting social security and what legislatures should do to strengthen it.
Mark Seavey from the American Legion magazine also spoke with AWF on April 19. Seavey talked about the Boston Marathon and how veterans ran it in honor of their injured or fallen brothers. He also talked about a “tough ruck” where veterans would carry their gear for 26.2 miles as a fundraiser for their fellow soldiers. This year, according to Seavey, over $860,000 was raised during the tough ruck. He also discussed the May edition of the publication and the 100 year celebration of the American Legion.
AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about income inequality, unionized nurses jobs being cut in Cuyahoga County jails, and the Mueller Report.
