Dr. Anton Bizzell of the Bizzell Group is a family physician and CEO of the Bizzell Group spoke about how businesses are affected by the opioid crisis, how construction workers are disproportionately affected and more on the Sept. 2 episode of America’s Work Force Radio Podcast.
Dr. Bizzell explained how businesses are affected by the opioid crisis. He said some businesses struggle to keep or find employees due to potential workers not being able to pass a drug test.
He then shifted to construction and discussed why construction workers are disproportionately affected by the opioid crisis.
He said the pressure to prematurely return to work leads some to begin abusing opioids. Since construction workers only earn a paycheck if they show up to work, many will return early in search of a paycheck and neglect their health, leading to further problems with opioids.
Finally, Dr. Bizzell discussed Sharing Solutions, a US Chamber of Commerce initiative designed to help businesses combat the opioid crisis.
He said the initiative offers resources for employers and employees. These resources include information about how to address the opioid crisis and more in the workplace.
