What makes America, America was the main topic of discussion on the Jan. 18 edition of America’s Work Force.
Mark Seavey, writer and editor with American Legion, discussed the definition of Americanism during his appearance on AWF. According to Seavey, Americanism encompasses democracy, freedom of speech, availability for education to those who want it and diversity. Seavey said that being a melting pot of different ethnicities, cultures, and religions is what makes America, America. He also talked about the 800,000 government employees who are not being paid and are still required to go in to work. Seavey talked about the Coast Guards risking potential injury or death while working and not receiving any pay as a result of the government shutdown.
Rich Fiesta, Executive Director with the Alliance for Retired Americans, was also featured on the Jan. 18 edition of AWF. Fiesta spoke about the majority of workers over the age of 50 being forced out of their jobs. He also talked about the new congress and issues they might address in 2019. Some of these issues include the Affordable Care Act, medicare for all, and medicare buy-in for older workers.
AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc talked about the ongoing government shutdown and the increase in TSA workers calling in sick in response to not being paid while still being required to show up to work.
