National Consumer Protection Week is slated for Feb. 28 through March 6. Consumers will be presented with a variety of programming to help protect them from any scams or issues.
Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) Public Relations Director Andrew Tinkham discussed why National Consumer Protection Week was created and previewed some of the programming on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.
National Consumer Protection Week
Tinkham said the event was created by the Federal Trade Commission in order to educate consumers of their rights and to help them protect their money, assets and identity.
He said that multiple agencies throughout the country take part in the event, hosting various workshops and other programming throughout the week. Some of these include the FTC, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and more.
National Consumer Protection Week programming
Tinkham said the OCC has various programs planned in order to educate Ohioans on how to protect themselves. He said they will have programs dealing with call spoofing, utility disconnect threats, door-to-door solicitation scams, phone scams and more.
This is vital, especially now, Tinkham said. He drew back to the pandemic, saying people’s assets need to be protected now more than ever. Americans cannot afford to lose any more than many already have.
