Frank Mathews, District 4 Administrative Director for the Communication Workers of America spoke with America’s Work Force Radio Podcast on June 9 about the CWA’s endorsement for President.
Mathews first discussed how CWA is endorsing Joe Biden for President. He said they will endorse Joe Biden because of his pro-labor views and platform of protecting workers rights. Mathews said Joe Biden is a strong advocate for the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act and is outspoken about his support of the legislation. He explained how candidates who claim to be “pro-labor” are few and far between and don’t come out and give support to legislation dealing with worker protections. Finally, Mathews condemned racism and explained how the CWA will not stand for it and have a zero tolerance policy involving racism.
Dave Wondolowski, Executive Secretary of the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council spoke about the need for construction workers as summer projects begin. He said with summer approaching, many construction projects will start and there is a demand for more workers on projects to ensure they get done on time and under budget. Wondolowski continued by saying training centers will begin accepting apprentices again, while adhering to improved safety standards and social distancing.
AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about the ongoing protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
