Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary Dave Wondolowski joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the Cleveland mayoral race and the Building Trades Council’s endorsement of Cleveland City Council President Kevin Kelley.
Cleveland’s mayoral race is a pivotal election that pits the experience of Kelley against the relative inexperience of opponent Justin Bibb, a 34-year-old who has yet to hold political office. When it comes to jobs and economic development, it is critical Cleveland has the leadership of someone like Kelley, who has shepherded countless projects through Cleveland City Hall, said Wondolowski.
Kelley’s experience is vital, especially for the trades, who face a number of upcoming projects such as the renovation of Progressive Field and the Sherwin Williams HQ project, he said.
Unlike his opponent, Kelley also opposes the widely contested Issue 24, which would turn the control of the Cleveland Police Department over to an independent review board, rather than the Cleveland mayor’s office. Passage of the issue would make Cleveland less safe and undermine the Cleveland Police Department’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wondolowski added.
