Cleveland BBB President educates listeners on current scams

As Americans are growing restless with lockdown requirements, Sue McConnell, President of the Cleveland Better Business Bureau warned America’s Work Force Radio Podcast listeners of some summertime scams.

McConnell first introduces listeners to a scam being operated by a Chinese company.

Americans have reported receiving seeds of which they did not order. When the seeds are delivered, the company creates customer profiles on ecommerce sites using the American information. From here, they write fake product reviews as a method of increasing credibility.

The next scam, though a fairly common scam, serves as a reminder to listeners.

People are being contacted by seemingly credible individuals in foreign countries who ask for wire transfers. When they send the money, they are again contacted and asked to send more in exchange for the release of their original money. In the end, all of the money is kept by the scammer.

Lastly, McConnell reminded listeners to be wary of tech scams, such as people attempting to disguise themselves as tech support in order to obtain personal information.
