Central Ohio construction gaining steam as 2021 begins

As the tech industry continues to grow, it is flocking to places such as Columbus, Ohio, where construction is plentiful with warehouse projects, data centers and more.

Columbus/Central Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer Dorsey Hager discussed local projects being worked on and what is in store in 2021, on America’s Work Force Union Podcast.

Central Ohio Construction

Central Ohio is booming with construction, Hager said. While most of the work being done involves tech company warehouses and data centers, there are many other notable projects on the books.

The Major League Soccer champions, Columbus Crew will have a new stadium to play in by the end of summer 2021. Hager said the downtown project will add to the thriving Columbus arena district.

He also said there is plenty of work being done at the Ohio State University that will continue providing work for local tradesmen and tradeswomen well into the future.

Hager also noted that the Linden Recreation Center project just wrapped up, being completed under budget.

2021 expectations

Hager expects construction work to remain strong in central Ohio throughout the year.

The Building Futures program is expected to continue growing. Hager hopes the program can continue to help central Ohioans learn new skills and guide them towards a career in the union construction industry.
