Retired member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Mike Walden joined the AWF Union Podcast to discuss how the Butch-Lewis Act will be used to protect pensions.
Attacks on pensions
Pensions have been the center of attention since former President Donald Trump’s administration up to the current administration. There have been attacks on pension plans that would cut or eliminate them completely, which would devastate those who have worked their entire careers for their pension.
Walden discussed how there was a Butch-Lewis Emergency Pension Relief included in the American Rescue Plan and how it is one step closer to being passed.
He said that the plan would address issues with single employer and multiemployer pension plans and help protect the worker’s pensions, keeping them from being taken away. Walden is hopeful that the American Rescue Plan will be passed and discussed how it will help millions of Americans.
Not only will the plan include pension protections, but it will include long awaited worker protections.
