Biden’s executive order will encourage collective bargaining for federal workers

American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) National President Everett Kelley joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment and a President Biden Executive Order that strives to bolster union membership.

The task force was formed to mobilize the federal government’s policies, programs and practices to empower workers to organize and successfully bargain with their employers. It resulted in Biden’s Executive Order that makes it an administration policy to encourage union organizing and collective bargaining among federal workers. It is an unprecedented plan that is in the early stages of implementation, Kelley said.

He also spoke about the Title 5 Rights Bill for Transportation Security Officers that recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives and will soon be considered by the U.S. Senate. The bill would put Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers on the same pay scale as other federal workers and provide them with needed workplace protections, including expanding collective bargaining rights and rights to appeal disciplinary actions.
