Communications’ Workers of America (CWA) District 4 Administrative Director Frank Mathews joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the union friendly policies of the Biden Administration and why elections matter when it comes to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
Since President Joe Biden appointed Lauren McFerran NLRB Chairman and nominated two board members with strong ties to organized labor to achieve a Democratic majority on the board, the NLRB has been decisively pro-union, Mathews said. Numerous NLRB rulings leveled the playing field and gave workers a voice in the workplace.
Under the Biden Administration, the NLRB has reversed numerous anti-labor rulings that came out during the Trump administration, he said.
America fares far better when its workers are unionized, as unions built the middle class and continue to strengthen America, he added.
Mathews also spoke about voter rights legislation. Politicians who have traditionally been against workers’ rights are trying to limit access at polls as a means of maintaining their power, he said. The nation needs legislation to make the ability to vote more accessible, he added.
