Current President and CEO of the National Sand, Stone and Gravel Association, a member of the Americans for Transportation Mobility Michael Johnson, joined America’s Work Force Union Podcast on Sept. 22 to stress the importance of investing in America’s transportation infrastructure.
At the top of his segment, Johnson reminded listeners that every day, we use America’s transportation infrastructure. We use it to go to our jobs, the grocery store or to travel to see family members.
Johnson stressed the need for new infrastructure funding. He hopes that certain congressional leaders will try to bundle infrastructure funding into other bills.
He said congress is close to agreeing on a continuing resolution, which will continue the funding of the federal government. In this resolution, Johnson hopes an extension of the FAST Act is included so congress can return after the election and work on a long term infrastructure funding bill.
With infrastructure being a fairly bipartisan topic, Johnson hopes these things can get done for the American people.
He said there are many ways infrastructure can be funded, action just needs to be taken. He added that not all taxes are bad. For example, an increase in the gas tax or in user fees. These progressive taxes would help improve the infrastructure of the United States.
