AFGE asks Congress to shorten probationary period for federal workers

American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 3283 Executive Vice President Laurie Glicker and Legislative Political Coordinator Joe Graceffo joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast to discuss the two-year probationary period for federal employees. They detailed the AFGE’s efforts to lobby legislators to lower the period to one year, and what it would mean to the financial planning abilities of federal workers.

Glicker and Graceffo also discussed efforts to privatize work at Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals and how it would impact the care veterans receive. They suggested privatization would lead to VA hospitals hiring fewer veterans as employees.

Lastly, they talked about the pro-union stance of the Biden Administration and why it is good for federal employees.
