What Lies Ahead: Future of Youngstown, Ohio Discussed on America’s Work Force

John Russo, writer for Working-Class Perspectives and retired professor emeritus from Youngstown States University spoke with America’s Work Force on July 26 about the future of Youngstown, Ohio.

John RussoRusso first discussed the Youngstown newspaper, The Youngstown Vindicator, and how it is being shut down. He discussed the effect that it would have not only on the community, but also to the newspapers suppliers. Russo explained why it is so important for people to receive their newspaper so they can stay up-to-date with current events, news and more, as it covers their surrounding towns and communities. He then talked about how the newspaper is not the only business being shut down in Youngstown, and as more and more businesses close, it feels as if the city of Youngstown is being wiped off of the map. Lastly, Russo talked about why there needs to be proper communication between Republicans and Democrats if they want to make any progress on any type of law or legislation.

United Steel WorkersFred Redmond, United Steelworkers vice president also joined with AWF on July 26. Redmond talked about President Trump manufacturing issues between Republicans and Democrats and how it is a risk to the United States’ democracy. He also spoke about working former general president of the USW, Leo Gerard, and how he paved the way for the success of the steelworkers union during his time in office.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about election security and driving more people to the polls to vote.
