Improving America’s Infrastructure Discussed on America’s Work Force

Terry O’Sullivan, general president of Laborers’ International Union of North America spoke with America’s Work Force on June 10 about improving and repairing America’s infrastructure.

O’Sullivan discussed America’s infrastructure and the ever-increasing need for repairs and improvements on it. He said that President Trump mentioned that the United States would put near two trillion dollars into the infrastructure budget, but will need nearly double that to make substantial improvements across the country. O’Sullivan then talked about how even when the new gas tax is implemented, there is still going to be more investment needed into infrastructure programs to get the job done. Lastly, he talked about the Dreams and Promise Act and how Dreamers could make a big impact in the construction industry since there is currently a shortage in construction workers.

OCC Ohio Consumers Counsel Dan DoronDan Doron, public affairs director with the Ohio Consumer Counsel spoke with AWF on June 10 to discuss First Energy Solutions. House Bill 6 is a bailout plan for First Energy Solutions and will collect subsidies from all Ohio utility users, not just those who use First Energy Solutions. Doron said that what First Energy Solutions is doing right now has been done before; a utility company will go bankrupt, then try to collect bailouts using subsidies. He then discussed a current bill that will push allowances to local entities with whether they would prefer to use solar power or wind power rather than letting the state choose for them. Finally, Doron provides some tips for utility users who may be moving soon or have recently moved.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about the nurses victory at Johns Hopkins hospital in Maryland and how the hospital will no longer garnish wages, prevent them from speaking about unions or organizing, and other labor laws that they had been previously breaking.

Infrastructure Improvements Discussed on America’s Work Force

Terry O’Sullivan, general president of the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA), spoke with America’s Work Force on May 13 about infrastructure improvements across the United States.

O’Sullivan spoke about a recent highway bill, passed in 2015, that put $305 billion towards infrastructure improvements and repairs over five years, and how it was not nearly enough money. After President Trump and congress labeled infrastructure improvements a top priority, O’Sullivan would still like to see more action by the president to prove these claims, such as allocating more money for infrastructure. He then addressed re-authorizing the highway bill in 2020 to keep pushing to improve the status of America’s failing infrastructure. O’Sullivan also talked about the need to address climate change and realistic and efficient forms of renewable energy.

OCC Ohio Consumers Counsel Dan Doron

Dan Doron, public affairs director with the Ohio Consumers Counsel spoke about First Energy Solutions asking for a bailout or they will be forced to shut down their power plants. If they have to shut down their plants, they claim that it will cost people more money because it will be expensive to have to transition to a different source of power, when in fact in the long run, it would be cheaper for the taxpayer. Doron also talks about utility line warranties and how some utility companies base warranties off of current condition of power lines in the neighborhood, how often they go down, and the environment surrounding the lines. He said that consumers need to do their research before selecting a warranty plan because some warranties do not cover pre-existing issues in the neighborhood.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about the tariffs on aluminum and steel in the United States and how President Trump is saying that they are advantageous for the U.S.
