Importance of Freedom of Press Discussed on America’s Work Force

Dr. Jill Stein from the Green Party U.S. spoke to America’s Work Force on June 12 to speak on the importance of having the freedom of the press.

Dr. Jill SteinDr. Stein said that around the world, there is an alarming decline in the freedom of the press. One of the biggest reasons why having the freedom of the press is so important is because it keeps unaccountable people in check, according to Stein. She claimed that by having freedom of the press, Democracy can stay strong because people are able to call out someone in a higher position when they make false claims, or lie, to either protect themselves or continue to push their agenda. Dr. Stein then went on to talk about how the protections for the press are being rolled back and how press members are being threatened or attacked because of the information they are providing. Lastly, she speaks about General Dynamics Bath Iron Works and the Green New Deal.

The Labor CitizenTom Germuska, Jr., editor of the Labor Citizen, talked about the upcoming June edition of the publication. This edition of the Labor Citizen talks about the tornadoes that touched down in Dayton, Ohio over the past month, and how building trades members have been coming together to help rebuild the community and provide as much help as they can to Dayton residence affected by the damages. This edition also tackles the hot button issue of laws being put in place that would make it illegal for teachers to go on strike in West Virginia and prevailing wage in the area. Lastly, Germuska spoke about the forecast for union construction growth and how the shortage of manpower on the projects is making it difficult to improve their growth.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about a union victory in Delaware, where legislation has been passed that would allow all workers to collectively bargain for contracts. He said that this law was passed thanks to the amount of union members in their local governments.
