On Feb. 22, Dave McCall, United Steelworkers District 1, provided perspective on bad trade deals with China on America’s Work Force Radio.
McCall talked about China dumping steel into the United States steel market for such low prices that it is making it difficult for U.S. steel to compete. He said that China would send steel to other countries and then have them export it to the U.S., still for such low prices, which continues to add on to the issue. McCall said that the U.S. should invest in its own steel industry because when it overperforms, it has better return on investment, which in turn creates more money to invest in more resources, improve technologies, increase in workers and help the economy.
John Russo spoke about Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) stressing the dignity of work and workers during his speeches in various states during his Feb. 22 AWF appearance. Russo also talked about connecting some of Dr. Martin Luther King’s teaching on the dignity of work to how we look at work today. He said no matter what work a person is doing, if they are devoting themselves to it, then their job should be respected. He then went on to talk about the future of work and the protection of workers. He concluded his time by speaking about the variety of Democrat presidential candidates in what he called a political “parabola” rather than a political spectrum.
AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about West Virginia teachers returning to their classrooms after legislation passed, killing a bill that would have taken away funding for classrooms. He also mentioned Governor Dewine’s proposed gas tax increase of 18 cents that he wants implemented in full on July 1.
