Importance of Freedom of Press Discussed on America’s Work Force

Dr. Jill Stein from the Green Party U.S. spoke to America’s Work Force on June 12 to speak on the importance of having the freedom of the press.

Dr. Jill SteinDr. Stein said that around the world, there is an alarming decline in the freedom of the press. One of the biggest reasons why having the freedom of the press is so important is because it keeps unaccountable people in check, according to Stein. She claimed that by having freedom of the press, Democracy can stay strong because people are able to call out someone in a higher position when they make false claims, or lie, to either protect themselves or continue to push their agenda. Dr. Stein then went on to talk about how the protections for the press are being rolled back and how press members are being threatened or attacked because of the information they are providing. Lastly, she speaks about General Dynamics Bath Iron Works and the Green New Deal.

The Labor CitizenTom Germuska, Jr., editor of the Labor Citizen, talked about the upcoming June edition of the publication. This edition of the Labor Citizen talks about the tornadoes that touched down in Dayton, Ohio over the past month, and how building trades members have been coming together to help rebuild the community and provide as much help as they can to Dayton residence affected by the damages. This edition also tackles the hot button issue of laws being put in place that would make it illegal for teachers to go on strike in West Virginia and prevailing wage in the area. Lastly, Germuska spoke about the forecast for union construction growth and how the shortage of manpower on the projects is making it difficult to improve their growth.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about a union victory in Delaware, where legislation has been passed that would allow all workers to collectively bargain for contracts. He said that this law was passed thanks to the amount of union members in their local governments.

America’s Work Force Takes On The Immigration Issue

America’s Work Force tackled the hot topic of the day, immigration, and how immigrants seeking asylum in the U.S. are being treated by border patrol agents.

Dr. Jill SteinJill Stein, a two-time Green Party presidential candidate, joined America’s Work Force on April 10 and talked immigration. She claimed President Trump instructed border patrol agents to turn away all immigrants coming towards the U.S.’s southern border, no matter their reasoning. Stein said argued such orders are against the law and these immigrants have a right to enter the U.S. to seek asylum, be released into the country after filing paperwork and have a court hearing to determine its validity.

Stein then argued the money President Trump requested to complete the construction of the southern border wall should be put into funding immigration courts, which would allow more asylum cases to be heard and processed. This, Stein reasoned, would decrease the number of people in detention centers or the number of illegal immigrants who are caught and released. Stein felt the U.S. should focus on becoming a superpower of human rights.

Vicky WardAlso on the show was New York Times best-selling author and investigative journalist Vicky Ward, who spoke to AWF about her new book Kushner, Inc.: Greed. Ambition. Corruption. The Extraordinary Story of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc talked about the need to improve America’s infrastructure, as well as Bank of America implementing a minimum raise wage up to $20 an hour. BOA said they raised their minimum wage because their business has been doing well and they feel the success of a company should be shared their employees.

United States Meddling in Other Countries Business Discussed on America’s Work Force

On March 13, Dr. Jill Stein with the Green Party US joined America’s Work Force to discuss the issue of the United States involving themselves in other countries problems.

Dr. Jill SteinDr. Stein talked about the issue of the United States feeling the need to insert themselves into other countries business when the U.S. does not agree with what is happening. Using Venezuela as an example, she said the biggest issue is that no one asked for the U.S. to help, they just always intervene when they do not like what is going on. Dr. Stein said that another issue with this is that President Trump always talks about “America First,” but then spends time and resources on Venezuela when no help was requested. Lastly, she talked about the need for more news media outlets to provide an alternative point of view on political issues.

Marie D. GroshMarie Grosh, RN, MSN, CNP, LNHA and professor at Case Western Reserve spoke with America’s Work Force on March 13 about the healthcare quality in Ohio. AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc discussed the recent Boeing 737 Max 8 crashes and how more and more of them are being grounded even though the FAA has not explicitly stated that it needs to be done.
