Writer for The Nation Magazine Jamie Lincoln Kitman Featured on America’s Work Force Radio

One of the featured writers for The Nation Magazine, was one of the two featured guests on America’s Work Force Radio.

The Nation Magazine

On Oct. 18, The Nation Magazine featured writer Jamie Lincoln Kitman was on the show to talk about his latest article called “Worse than Lead?”, which discusses corporate America poisoning people with lead in gasoline and fire retardants. The article goes into detail about why we started using lead in gasoline and in fire retardants. The reason for wanting to put lead in gasoline was to raise the fuel’s octane level and reduces engine “knock”, but was later discovered that lead in the gasoline wreaked havoc on the engine and was soon to be phased out. He then discusses what corporations did next; sell gasoline with unprecedented amounts of lead in it to third-world countries.

Coalition of Labor Union Women CLUW

Our second featured guest was Patricia Cartwright with Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW). Cartwright joined us to talk about what CLUW is all about, building a bridge between all women in viable organizations and about the upcoming election. She also discusses the plan or a march to the polls next Wednesday to encourage people to get up and go out and vote.

Show host Ed “Flash” Ferenc also discussed the steel workers still have not negotiated a new contract since their last one expired in September, the Center for American Progress, and members of congress and voting on health care protections with pre-existing conditions.

Union Defeating Executive Orders Discussed on America’s Work Force.

On our show today, we had guests Mark Gruenberg and Sue McConnell. Our first guest Mark Gruenberg is head Washington DC’s bureau of People’s World and also an editor of Press Associations Inc. During his time on the show, Gruenberg talks about the Brett Kavanaugh hearing, people calling the senate and telling them to believe the survivors, Labor Federations, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) all speaking against Kavanaugh. Gruenberg also talks about the executive court orders being overturned and now how they are being appealed and he explains that federal workers cannot bargain over their pay, contracts with the middle class, Cordray and Dewine race, and a Blue Wave.

Our second guest on the show was Sue McConnell from the Better Business Bureau. Today, Sue talked about new scams going on with fake check scams and car wrap scams. People are being sent fraudulent checks from companies that they think are trustworthy, depositing the bogus checks, taking money out and sending it to a third party business involved in the scam, and then having to pay the bank back when they find out the check was fake. Last year, the public lost over $60 million from these fake check scandals and that does not include scams that were not reported! She also talks about doing research before sending money to Natural Disaster Relief charities because some may not be trustworthy and keep the money, and she finishes her time on the show talking about children’s identities being stolen and their credit scores being ruined.

We also talk about Labor 411 celebrating a decade of making a difference for workers, and supporting businesses who treat their workers well and provide good pay, benefits, etc. A lot of interesting stuff on the show today!
