Manufacturing in America Discussed on America’s Work Force

Tom Buffenbarger, retired former general president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers spoke to America’s Work Force on June 25 about manufacturing in America.

IAM International Association of Machinists and Aerospace WorkersBuffenbarger discussed the quality of American manufacturing and how the quality of what the U.S. makes is way above the quality of manufacturing in other countries, such as China or Mexico. He mentioned this because he wanted to bring attention to American jobs being outsourced and the quality of products decreasing because of the cheaper labor and materials being used. Buffenbarger stated that Boeing jets is guilty of doing this, by having their production moved overseas and receiving lower quality jets, but saving most on production costs. Lastly, he talked about Delta Airlines and their blatant union busting tactics by telling their employees that they are better off spending their hard earned money on video games or sporting events rather than having to pay union dues every year.

CCVSC Cuyahoga County Veterans Service CommissionJon Reiss, executive director of the Cuyahoga County Veteran Services Commission spoke with AWF on June 25 about the services that they offer to veterans and about providing easier access to transportation services. He also discussed the CCVSC now being fully staffed and having the ability to be able to travel to retirement homes to help veterans with whatever they may need assistance with.

AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc spoke about grocery workers in California from Local 135 voting to authorize a strike because of stalled contract talks over better wages, benefits and hours.
