Bill Samuel, Government Affairs Director of the AFL-CIO, discussed the incoming new congress on America’s Work Force Radio.
Samuel discussed House Resolution Bill 1 during the Jan. 2 edition of AWF. He mentions that HR 1 covers areas such as government reform, voting rights, campaign finances, gerrymandering, government ethics and much more. Samuel then talked about labor law reform to help make it easier for workers to organize and provide more bargaining power to the worker. He also covered the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement and how it is benefiting Mexican workers.
Dave Megenhardt, Executive Director of the United Labor Agency, discussed helping people return to work after being out for a long period of time. He said his agency helps people write or update resumes, host workshops to refresh the worker’s skills, and assists in matching the worker’s skills with required skills in job openings. Megenhardt also talked about the future of advanced manufacturing.
AWF host Ed “Flash” Ferenc talked about the AFGE suing the Trump administration for forcing employees to work during the shut down with no pay. He also discussed the current status of the government shut down.
